One of the big advantages of these policies is that if there is a claim, the pay out will not be subject to the laws and regulations of your new country of residence – it will be subject to the laws of the jurisdiction in which your insurance company is based (typically the Channel Islands or The Isle of Man). This provides great flexibility in how the money is handled.

If you are required to undergo a medical, the insurance company will make all the arrangements for you to be examined locally in your new country of residence, or if you are still in the UK waiting to go abroad, in the UK.
